Life has a way of testing us in ways we don’t expect. For me, two of the biggest challenges I’ve faced have been living with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and being hearing-impaired. These conditions have impacted my day-to-day life, especially as a student-athlete. But instead of allowing them to hold me back, I’ve chosen to let them shape me into a stronger, more resilient, and more determined person. One particular experience stands out as a defining moment when I faced incredible hardship—and through it, achieved something greater than I imagined. During my sophomore year, my arthritis flared up badly. The pain was constant, especially in my knees and ankles, making it nearly impossible to move the way I needed to for football. I was sidelined for a portion of the season and watched from the bench as my teammates competed without me. On top of that, navigating the classroom with a hearing impairment required constant focus and adaptation—reading lips, using assistive devices, and sometimes even missing parts of lessons due to miscommunication. I was frustrated, discouraged, and on the verge of giving up on my season—and my goals. But I knew I couldn’t stay in that place. My faith played a major role in helping me find strength. I spent time in prayer and reflection, asking God for guidance, patience, and endurance. That spiritual grounding reminded me that my identity wasn’t in football or perfection, but in perseverance and purpose. I decided to take action—not just wait for things to get better. First, I created a routine that allowed me to manage my arthritis. I worked closely with my doctors, physical therapist, and coaches to modify my training while still improving my performance. I focused on low-impact strength work, stretching, and recovery techniques like ice baths and foam rolling. Off the field, I doubled down on my schoolwork, using every available resource—extra tutoring, class notes, and closed captions—to ensure I didn’t fall behind. I also developed better communication skills. I learned to advocate for myself, speaking with teachers about my hearing needs and working with classmates to form study groups. This not only helped me academically but built my confidence socially, too. Most importantly, I stayed connected to my team and embraced a leadership role, even when I couldn’t play. I showed up early to practice, helped younger players with drills, and led sideline encouragement during games. That shift in mindset—from “Why me?” to “How can I help?”—completely changed my outlook. By junior year, I came back stronger, physically and mentally. I earned my starting spot back and helped lead our team through a challenging season. More than just a comeback on the field, it was a personal victory. I had pushed through pain, setbacks, and doubt—and came out better for it. That experience taught me that hardship doesn’t mean defeat. It revealed to me how powerful grit, preparation, and faith can be when used together. It also helped me discover my passion for helping others through adversity. That’s why I want to pursue a degree in Sport Management and eventually work in player development or team operations. I want to support athletes—not just in their performance, but in their personal battles, just like I was supported. Hardship shaped me, but it didn’t define me. It built my character, revealed my calling, and prepared me for the challenges still ahead. And now, I face them not with fear, but with purpose.

I come from a hardworking, humble family in North Hanover, New Jersey. Both of my parents are teachers—people who have dedicated their lives to helping others learn and grow, even when it hasn't been easy for them financially. Watching them work long hours, often bringing work home, and sacrificing so much to provide for our family has had a major impact on me. They’ve shown me the value of education, perseverance, and serving others. Even though money has always been tight, my parents never let that limit their dreams—or mine. They taught me that success isn’t about wealth or status, but about character, faith, and making a difference in the lives of others. Their example has motivated me to pursue my education with purpose and determination. I plan to study Sport Management at Temple University because I want to turn my passion for sports into a career that allows me to uplift and inspire others. Whether it's working in team operations, player development, or community outreach, I hope to use what I learn to create opportunities for athletes and make a meaningful impact in the sports world. My education is more than a path to a job—it’s a way to honor my parents’ sacrifices, break generational barriers, and serve others through leadership and faith. I’m driven not just by ambition, but by gratitude and a desire to give back to the people and communities that have shaped me.

To me, being a good citizen means living with integrity, serving others, and using the freedoms we’ve been blessed with to make a positive impact in our communities. It’s not just about following laws—it’s about standing up for what is right, giving back, and treating others with respect and dignity. A good citizen looks beyond their own interests and seeks to contribute to the common good, whether that’s through volunteering, voting, mentoring, or simply being kind and honest in everyday life. Growing up in a small town in New Jersey, I’ve seen what strong communities can do when people care for each other and step up to lead. I’ve tried to live that out by coaching youth sports, mentoring younger athletes, and volunteering at Fellowship Crosspoint Church. These might seem like small things, but to me, they’re acts of citizenship—taking responsibility for the world around me and using my gifts to serve others. Voting is one of the most important responsibilities we have as citizens. It’s how we help shape the future of our nation. Every vote is a voice, and when people choose not to vote, they give up the opportunity to influence decisions that affect their lives and communities. Voting allows us to hold leaders accountable, support the values we believe in, and protect the freedoms we often take for granted. As someone who deeply values freedom—especially freedom of speech, religion, and opportunity—I believe that voting is essential to keeping our nation strong and free. Without active participation from its citizens, a democracy can’t function. Our freedom is a gift, but it’s also a responsibility. Voting ensures that we have a say in how our government operates and reminds us that the power lies with the people. The Constitution, to me, is the foundation of our nation’s identity. It’s not just a document—it’s a living guide that protects our rights and outlines the principles that make America unique. As a Christ-driven young adult, I’m grateful for the First Amendment, which protects my freedom to live out my faith publicly and privately. The Constitution ensures that no matter where I go in this country, I have the right to speak, worship, and pursue my dreams. It also guarantees equality under the law, and as someone who has faced challenges like hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, I appreciate the protections and opportunities that exist because of it. I know I can chase my goals—whether it’s studying Sport Management, working in professional athletics, or starting a mentorship program for athletes with disabilities—because the Constitution defends my right to do so. But the Constitution is only as strong as the people who uphold it. That’s why we must stay informed, stay involved, and never take our freedoms for granted. Being a good citizen means understanding that freedom isn’t free—it’s preserved by the actions of everyday people who care enough to participate, speak up, and live with purpose. In the end, I believe good citizenship is about living your values out loud. It’s about honoring the sacrifices of those who came before us by serving, leading, and loving others well. It’s about voting not just for ourselves, but for future generations. And it’s about recognizing that the Constitution is a sacred trust—a reminder that we are all stewards of the liberty and justice it promises.

My name is Angelo Zirilli, and I’m a proud Italian American, a Christ-driven young adult, and a dedicated student-athlete playing football my whole life and also varsity lacrosse from North Hanover, New Jersey. Growing up, sports were more than just games—they were a place where I learned discipline, leadership, and how to push through adversity. As a football player, I gave everything I had on the field, not just for myself but for my teammates. I was a varsity captain and also was considered a leader. On the lacrosse team, I was the goalie which in itself is a very stressful position. I played with aggression and overcame many bumps and bruises as a leader. Being a student-athlete has shaped who I am, teaching me how to manage time, handle pressure, and lead both vocally and by example. One of the most impactful parts of my journey was mentoring younger teammates—especially the linemen and quarterbacks—after tough games. I’d pray with them, counsel them, and remind them that their value goes beyond wins and losses. Those moments taught me that I want to stay connected to sports, but not just as a player—I want to be someone who builds up others and helps athletes grow into strong, confident leaders. That’s why I plan to major in Sport Management at Temple University and pursue a career in team operations, player development, or front office leadership. I also would like to use my math and history subject strength in school to continue mentoring and working towards my goals. Off the field, I’ve developed a love for mentoring and serving. I volunteer at Fellowship Crosspoint Church, where I help guide kids and participate in outreach events. My faith plays a central role in everything I do. It’s given me strength through personal challenges like being hearing-impaired and living with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. These experiences haven’t held me back—they’ve motivated me to work harder, stay humble, and serve others. Outside of sports, I enjoy studying history—especially how it connects with culture, leadership, and community. I’m also fascinated by analytics, which is something I hope to bring into the sports world. Whether it’s breaking down plays or understanding team strategies, I love learning how everything works together behind the scenes. Being a student-athlete has taught me grit, grace, and responsibility. It’s given me a vision for my future and a passion to lead by faith and service in whatever career path I follow.

Faith, Sports, and Service: My Journey and Future Goals Growing up in New Jersey, sports, education, and community service have played a major role in shaping who I am today. As an avid sports fan and a Christ-driven young adult, I have always believed in the power of teamwork, leadership, and giving back. These experiences have defined my journey and continue to guide my future goals. Football has been a defining part of my life, teaching me discipline, perseverance, and the importance of faith in competition. I played football since I was 5 years old, and was captain my senior year. During my senior year, I had the honor of leading my football team in prayer on the field hours before each game. This tradition wasn’t just about preparation—it was about unity, trust, and seeking strength beyond ourselves. It reminded me that sports are about more than just wins and losses; they’re about the impact we have on those around us. In addition to playing football, I have also coached youth basketball and football, passing on the lessons I’ve learned to the next generation of athletes. Academically, I have remained committed to my education, recognizing its importance in shaping my future. I have a passion for Math and have always been excited about statistics and scouting information about athletes. My passion for sports has led me to pursue a career in sport management, where I can combine my love for athletics with leadership, organization, and analytics. I have always been fascinated by the strategic side of sports, and I am eager to learn how I can contribute to the industry in a meaningful way. My goal is to attend Temple University’s Sport Management program, where I can further develop the skills necessary to make an impact in the sports world. Giving back to my community has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life. Volunteering at Fellowship Crosspoint Church has strengthened my faith and taught me the value of service. Whether helping at church events or mentoring young athletes, I have learned that true leadership comes from lifting others up. Coaching has allowed me to connect with kids who need guidance and encouragement, and it has been incredibly rewarding to watch them grow in confidence both on and off the field. After high school, my primary goal is to earn my degree in sport management and use my education to create opportunities for young athletes- specifically as a College or NFL Scout. I want to develop programs that emphasize leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, ensuring that sports continue to serve as a platform for positive change. Beyond my career, I hope to remain involved in mentoring and coaching, continuing to inspire young athletes through faith and perseverance. Ultimately, I want my journey to reflect the values of determination, service, and unwavering faith, leaving a lasting impact on both the sports industry and my community.

One of the most meaningful community events I have participated in is the tradition of team prayer before football games during my senior year. Growing up in New Jersey, where sports play a central role in bringing people together, I have always believed that football is more than just a game—it’s a brotherhood, a platform for leadership, and an opportunity to strengthen faith. As a Christ-driven young adult and an avid sports fan, leading my team in prayer on the field hours before each game was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. This tradition was about more than just words—it was a moment of unity. No matter our backgrounds, personal struggles, or the pressures of competition, we came together with a shared purpose. We asked for strength, safety, and the ability to play with heart and integrity. Seeing my teammates bow their heads and embrace that moment showed me the power of faith in fostering connection and resilience. It reminded me that leadership isn’t just about making big plays on the field—it’s about setting an example, lifting others up, and standing firm in what you believe. Beyond the personal impact, this experience reinforced the importance of faith-based leadership in my community. In a world where young people often struggle with pressure, doubt, and adversity, I want to see more opportunities for faith and mentorship integrated into sports. My hope is that future athletes in my community continue this tradition, using prayer not just as a pregame ritual but as a way to build character, unity, and a deeper sense of purpose. Additionally, I would love to see more local initiatives that combine faith and athletics, such as sports mentorship programs led by community leaders and church members. These programs could provide young athletes with guidance, helping them develop both on and off the field. Through my experiences coaching youth basketball and football, I have seen firsthand how powerful positive role models can be. If more young athletes had strong mentors who emphasized faith, hard work, and perseverance, the entire community would benefit. Ultimately, the tradition of team prayer was meaningful to me because it reinforced the values I strive to live by—faith, leadership, and service. It reminded me that success isn’t just measured by wins and losses but by the impact we have on those around us. As I pursue my education and career in sport management, I hope to continue creating opportunities that inspire young athletes to grow in both their skills and their faith, leaving a lasting impact on my community.

Growing up in Wrightstown, New Jersey- which is close to Pennsylvania (mainly Philadelphia) has played a significant role in shaping my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Both of These states, rich in cultural diversity, passionate sports communities, and strong values of hard work and perseverance, have provided me with experiences that continue to guide my journey. One of the biggest influences on my beliefs has been the sense of community I’ve witnessed throughout my life. Whether it’s teammates looking out for each other, families gathering for Sunday dinners, or local sports teams bringing people together, I’ve learned the importance of unity and support. My mother grew up in North Jersey and has a strong tie to NY sports teams, while My dad grew up where we live now, with a very strong fandom of Philadelphia Sports Teams. My Italian American heritage has also reinforced these values, emphasizing the importance of family, faith, and resilience. These lessons have influenced my own approach to life—I believe in lifting others up, staying dedicated to my goals, and never giving up, no matter the challenge. Living in NJ with such a strong sports culture has also fueled my career aspirations. From Friday night football games as I played all four years on my HS football team at Northern Burlington Regional HS to the passionate fan bases of Philadelphia and New York teams (as stated before both of my parents families are very passionate for opposite teams), sports have always been more than just entertainment—they’re a way of life. This passion, combined with my love for analytics, has led me to pursue a degree in sport management. I want to use my education to create opportunities for athletes, helping them develop both on and off the field. My goal is to work in a role where I can make an impact, whether by improving youth sports programs, working with professional teams, or shaping the future of the industry through data-driven decisions. I am hoping to go to Temple Universityl My relationships have been strengthened by the connections I’ve made through sports and volunteer work. Coaching youth basketball and football has allowed me to form bonds with young athletes who look to me as a mentor. Many of these kids face struggles beyond the game, and being a consistent source of encouragement for them has been incredibly rewarding. Additionally, my involvement at Fellowship Crosspoint Church has deepened my relationships with those who share my faith and values, reinforcing the importance of service and compassion. These experiences have shaped me into someone who values loyalty, leadership, and the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. Ultimately, my upbringing in New Jersey (near Pennsylvania) has given me a strong foundation built on faith, community, and perseverance. It has shaped my beliefs in the power of mentorship and service, strengthened my relationships through shared experiences, and inspired me to pursue a career that aligns with my passions. My Italian American heritage has shaped my identity in ways that extend far beyond family traditions and cultural pride. It has instilled in me the values of determination, resilience, and dedication—qualities that have guided me through challenges and fueled my aspirations. These same values, embodied by Marcello Rosino, inspire me as I pursue my education and strive to make a positive impact. My dad is 100% Italian and my mom is 75% Italian. Growing up in an Italian American family in New Jersey with much of my husband's family in North or South Philadelphia, I learned that hard work and perseverance are the foundation of success. Whether through stories of my ancestors like my Great Grandfather- a tailor from Italy overcoming hardships or the unwavering dedication of my own family- cooking almost daily and of course very loud, I have always been surrounded by examples of resilience and family. My family has been monumental in supporting me and my goals in life every step of the way. Living with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis has tested me in ways I never expected, but my heritage has taught me to push forward despite obstacles. Rather than letting my condition define me, I have used it as motivation to work harder and prove to myself that I am capable of achieving anything. This determination has been especially evident in my civic involvement. Coaching youth basketball and football has allowed me to instill the same values in the young athletes I mentor. I teach them that success is not just about talent—it’s about persistence, effort, and the ability to rise after setbacks. Volunteering at Fellowship Crosspoint Church has further reinforced my belief in dedication to serving others, reminding me that true strength lies in uplifting those around us. As I pursue my education in sport management at Temple University, I plan to use these lessons to create opportunities for young athletes. My goal is to develop programs that promote leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, ensuring that all kids—regardless of their background—have access to sports and mentorship. Just as my heritage has shaped me, I want to shape the next generation by passing on the values of determination, resilience, and dedication. Through my education and career, I hope to honor the legacy of individuals like Marcello Rosino, who exemplified these qualities. By working to inspire and uplift others, I will ensure that the spirit of my Italian American heritage continues to make a lasting impact. Thank you very much for your time.

I want to make a change in my life because I believe in striving for something greater—not just for myself, but for those around me. My experiences with hearing loss, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and the challenges of balancing academics and athletics have taught me the value of resilience. I have never let my obstacles define me; instead, I use them as motivation to push forward. My goal is to pursue a career in sports management at Temple University, where I can use my passion for football and analytics to create opportunities for young athletes and advocate for mental health awareness in sports. One of the biggest reasons I want to create change is because I have seen the impact of mentorship, leadership, and support in my own life. Coaches, teachers, and family members have guided me through tough times, and I want to be that source of encouragement for others. Sports have the power to transform lives, and I want to help athletes develop not only their physical abilities but also their mental resilience and leadership skills. I have taken several steps to bring myself closer to my dream of working in sports management. First, I have dedicated myself to learning as much as possible about sports analytics, leadership, and business. I use tools like Excel for data analysis, study advanced football metrics through platforms like Pro Football Focus and Next Gen Stats, and watch film breakdowns to understand how teams make strategic decisions. Second, I have committed to leadership roles in my community and school. Whether it’s mentoring younger athletes, helping my teammates through difficult times, or volunteering in my church, I have worked to build a strong foundation of service and leadership. These experiences have helped me develop the communication, organization, and problem-solving skills necessary for a successful career in sports management. Third, I have been proactive about networking and learning from professionals in the field. I follow sports analysts, managers, and coaches on social media, engage in discussions about the industry, and seek advice from mentors who have experience in sports business. These efforts have helped me gain a better understanding of the path I need to take to achieve my career goals. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help in making my dreams a reality. It would allow me to focus on my education without the added financial stress on my family, as my parents work multiple jobs to support me. More importantly, it would give me the opportunity to continue my studies in sports management and gain the knowledge and experience I need to create meaningful change in the field. I strongly believe in giving back, just as others have invested in me. One of my biggest goals is to mentor young athletes, helping them develop both on and off the field. I want to create mentorship programs that teach leadership, mental toughness, and career development in sports. I also plan to advocate for mental health resources in youth sports, ensuring that athletes have the support they need to handle pressure, setbacks, and challenges. By receiving this scholarship, I will not only be investing in my future but also in the futures of those I hope to inspire. I want to lead by example and show young athletes that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about perseverance, integrity, and lifting others up along the way.

How My Experience with Mental Health Has Influenced My Beliefs, Relationships, and Career Aspirations Mental health has played a significant role in shaping my beliefs, strengthening my relationships, and guiding my career aspirations. Like many young athletes, I have faced challenges that tested my mental resilience—whether it was dealing with hearing loss, managing juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, or handling the pressures of academics and sports. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the importance of mental health, not only in personal success but also in building strong, supportive communities. One of the biggest ways mental health has influenced me is by reinforcing my faith and belief in perseverance. When I faced setbacks—whether due to injuries, exhaustion, or self-doubt—I learned to lean on my faith in God for strength. I have come to believe that mental health is not just about avoiding struggles but about **finding ways to overcome them with faith, resilience, and support.** The Bible teaches about endurance and overcoming adversity, and I have found that those lessons apply directly to mental well-being. I have also come to believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, especially in sports. Many athletes are trained to push through pain, but few are taught how to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional struggles. My experiences have made me a strong advocate for breaking the stigma around mental health in athletics and encouraging open conversations about emotional well-being. My own struggles with mental health have deepened my empathy for others. I have learned that you never truly know what someone is going through, and a small act of kindness or support can make a huge difference. Because of this, I have made it a priority to be there for my teammates, friends, and younger athletes who might be struggling. On my football team, I have seen firsthand how the pressure to perform can affect players’ confidence and mental state. Some of my teammates have turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms, like vaping or reckless behavior, to deal with stress. Instead of judging, I have tried to be someone they can talk to, encouraging them to focus on better ways to handle pressure. My relationships with my family and mentors have also grown stronger because of my understanding of mental health. My grandfather’s experiences in war, including the trauma he endured, have taught me that mental health challenges don’t always fade over time—they need to be addressed, talked about, and supported. His story has motivated me to be someone who listens, supports, and encourages others through their struggles. My experiences with mental health have had a direct impact on my career goals. I plan to attend Temple University’s Sport Management program because I want to make a difference in how mental health is addressed in sports. Too often, athletes at all levels—high school, college, and even professional—are expected to be mentally tough without being given the tools to build mental resilience. In my future career, I want to develop programs within sports organizations that focus on mental wellness, leadership, and personal development. I envision working with coaches and athletes to ensure that mental health is treated as an essential part of performance, just like physical training. Whether it’s through mentorship programs, workshops, or integrating mental health education into sports training, I want to help athletes build confidence, manage stress, and develop skills that will serve them beyond their playing careers. Another goal of mine is to advocate for faith-based support systems in sports. Faith has played a huge role in my own mental well-being, and I believe it can help others as well. Whether it’s through team prayer groups, faith-based mentorship, or simply encouraging athletes to find strength in their beliefs, I want to ensure that players have access to the emotional and spiritual support they need. My journey with mental health has shaped me into the person I am today. It has reinforced my belief in perseverance, strengthened my relationships through empathy and support, and guided my career aspirations toward making a real impact in the sports world. I want to be a leader who not only understands the business of sports but also prioritizes the well-being of athletes, ensuring that they have the tools, support, and encouragement to succeed both on and off the field.
      Keri Sohlman Memorial Scholarship
I am inspired to get involved in the mental health and education professions because I have seen firsthand how much of an impact strong mentors, teachers, and coaches can have on young people. As a high school senior preparing to attend Temple University’s Sport Management program, I want to use my passion for sports and leadership to make a difference in the lives of youth and adolescents. Sports have always been more than just a game to me—they have been a source of growth, discipline, and confidence. I believe they can also be a powerful tool for mental health support and education. Many young athletes struggle with mental health challenges, from performance anxiety to self-doubt and pressure to succeed. I have faced my own obstacles, including hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, but through faith, perseverance, and the right support system, I have learned to push through adversity. I want to be that same source of encouragement for the next generation. I envision myself working in sports management with a focus on youth development, mentoring athletes, and advocating for mental health awareness in sports. One of my biggest goals is to create programs that help young athletes build mental resilience while also developing their athletic and academic skills. I want to **implement workshops, mentorship programs, and support systems** that emphasize both mental wellness and leadership development. Many schools and youth sports organizations lack proper mental health education, and I want to change that by working with coaches, educators, and professionals to ensure young athletes have access to the resources they need. Education plays a critical role in shaping an individual’s future, and I believe that mental health should be a key part of that education. I see myself contributing to youth wellness by developing initiatives within sports programs that teach emotional intelligence, stress management, and confidence-building strategies. By integrating these lessons into athletics, young people can learn to handle adversity, make informed decisions, and grow into strong leaders both on and off the field. Through my studies at Temple University, I will gain the business, leadership, and organizational skills needed to bring these ideas to life. Combining my love for sports with my desire to help others, I hope to be a driving force in shaping young athletes into well-rounded, mentally strong individuals who are prepared for success in life, not just in sports. My ultimate goal is to make a lasting impact by ensuring that youth sports are a place where mental health is prioritized, education is valued, and every athlete feels supported.

To further my understanding of sports management and analytics, I use a variety of online platforms, tools, and resources that help me develop my skills and apply my knowledge in meaningful ways. These resources have played a crucial role in expanding my understanding of data analysis, business strategies in sports, and leadership principles. One of the most valuable tools I use is **Microsoft Excel**. Excel is essential for sports analytics, and I have spent time learning how to use it for organizing data, creating formulas, and analyzing player and team statistics. By using Excel, I have been able to break down football performance metrics, track trends, and develop insights that help me better understand the game. It has helped me apply my passion for numbers in a practical way, showing me how analytics drive decision-making in sports. I also use **PFF (Pro Football Focus) and Next Gen Stats**, which provide in-depth analytics on football performance. These platforms allow me to study advanced statistics like player efficiency, route running success, and defensive coverages. By analyzing these metrics, I have learned how data can be used to evaluate talent, create game plans, and improve team performance. This has given me a better perspective on how I can apply analytics in my future career in sports management. Additionally, **YouTube** has been an incredible learning resource. I follow channels that break down football strategy, analytics, and business aspects of the sports industry. Watching film analysis, coaching breakdowns, and industry professionals discuss trends has deepened my knowledge beyond what I learn in school. It has also helped me see how theoretical concepts are applied in real-world situations. For business and management skills, I use **LinkedIn Learning and Coursera**, where I have taken courses on sports marketing, leadership, and data-driven decision-making. These platforms provide expert-led courses that have helped me understand the financial and operational sides of sports management. By learning from professionals, I have gained insights into industry best practices and strategies. Social media platforms like **Twitter (X) and LinkedIn** also keep me updated on the latest trends in sports analytics and management. I follow industry leaders, analysts, and teams to stay informed about new developments and career opportunities in the field. By combining these resources, I have been able to develop a strong foundation in sports management and analytics. These tools have not only helped me build technical skills but have also allowed me to apply my knowledge in real-world scenarios, preparing me for a successful career in the sports industry.
      David Foster Memorial Scholarship
Throughout high school, I have been fortunate to have many great teachers, but none have influenced me more than Mr. Stan Blackburn. He is more than just a teacher—he is a mentor, a motivator, and someone who truly cares about his students beyond the classroom. His impact on my life has shaped the way I approach challenges, my work ethic, and my overall mindset about success and perseverance. Mr. Blackburn’s teaching style is different from most. He doesn’t just focus on lessons from a textbook; he teaches life lessons that stick with you long after you leave his class. He constantly pushes his students to think critically, work hard, and never settle for less than their best. His tough-but-fair approach made me realize that success isn’t given—it’s earned through determination and effort. One of the biggest lessons I learned from him was the power of perseverance. There were times when balancing academics, football, and my personal challenges—like my hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis—felt overwhelming. But Mr. Blackburn always reminded me that obstacles are not excuses; they are opportunities to prove my strength. He encouraged me to embrace adversity, not fear it. His words gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward, even when things seemed impossible. Beyond academics, Mr. Blackburn also taught me the importance of integrity and character. He always emphasized that who you are as a person matters more than any grade or accomplishment. He led by example, treating every student with respect and pushing us to do the same for others. His lessons on accountability and leadership have stuck with me and will continue to guide me in my future career. One moment that stands out was when I was struggling with a tough decision about my future. I wasn’t sure if I was making the right choices for college and my career path. Instead of giving me the answer, Mr. Blackburn asked me questions that made me think deeply about what I truly wanted. He helped me realize that my passion for sports management and analytics was worth pursuing and that with hard work and faith, I could achieve my goals. Because of Mr. Blackburn, I now approach life with a mindset of resilience, discipline, and purpose. His influence has not only helped me in high school but will continue to impact me in college and beyond. I am grateful for his guidance and the lasting lessons he has instilled in me.

      Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I love math because it is the foundation of logic, problem-solving, and the way the world operates. Growing up, I was fortunate to have my father, a math teacher, as a mentor who showed me the beauty of numbers and their real-world applications. His passion for the subject inspired me to appreciate math beyond the classroom—it became something I enjoyed rather than just a subject I had to learn. Math is everywhere, especially in sports, which is one of my greatest passions. From analyzing football statistics to understanding probability and strategy, math helps break down the game in ways that go beyond just watching it. Sports analytics, in particular, fascinates me because it combines my love for football with data-driven decision-making. What I love most about math is its consistency—there is always a solution, even if it takes time and effort to find it. It challenges me to think critically, approach problems from different angles, and develop perseverance when faced with complex equations. My father’s influence has played a huge role in shaping my appreciation for math. His ability to make difficult concepts understandable and his patience in teaching have shown me that math is not just about numbers but about logic and discovery. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in my future career in sports management, math will always be a tool I rely on to make informed decisions and solve real-world problems. Thank you for your time and consideration.

      Social Anxiety Step Forward Scholarship
Anxiety has been a challenge in my life, but it has also shaped me into a stronger, more determined person. Living with hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis has often made me feel different, which, at times, has led to feelings of self-doubt and anxiety. There have been moments when I have worried about keeping up with my peers, struggling to hear in conversations, or managing pain while balancing academics and extracurricular activities. However, through these experiences, I have learned how to cope, adapt, and turn my anxiety into motivation. Anxiety has affected me in many ways—whether it’s overthinking situations, feeling pressure to prove myself, or fearing that my challenges might hold me back. In school, I have sometimes second-guessed my abilities, wondering if I could achieve the same level of success as my peers. In sports, I have worried about whether my physical limitations would prevent me from performing at my best. Socially, I have faced moments of hesitation, unsure if others would truly understand my experiences. However, rather than allowing these fears to control me, I have used them as fuel to push forward. One of the ways I have managed my anxiety is through my faith in Jesus. My faith reminds me that I am not alone and that every challenge I face has a purpose. Prayer, scripture, and my belief in God’s plan give me the strength to keep moving forward, even in times of doubt. Additionally, I have learned to lean on my support system—my family, teachers, and mentors—who have always encouraged me and reminded me of my worth. I have also found that staying active, particularly through sports, has helped me manage stress and anxiety by giving me an outlet to focus on something I love. Pursuing a college degree is important to me because it represents opportunity, growth, and the chance to make a difference. Education is the key to unlocking my potential and achieving my dreams of working in Sport Management. I want to use my degree to advocate for inclusivity in sports, create opportunities for athletes with disabilities, and promote ethical leadership in the industry. College is not just about academics; it’s about developing as a person, gaining experiences, and preparing to impact the world in a meaningful way. Beyond my personal goals, earning a degree is also about proving to myself and others that challenges do not define a person’s future. I want to inspire others who face adversity—whether it’s physical, emotional, or financial—to believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams. Anxiety has tested me, but it has also strengthened me. Pursuing higher education is my way of showing that no obstacle is too great to overcome. Thank you for your consideration.

      Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is *Rudy*. This film tells the true story of Rudy Ruettiger, a young man with big dreams of playing football for Notre Dame despite facing overwhelming obstacles. Rudy was smaller, less athletic, and constantly told he wasn’t good enough, yet he refused to give up. His relentless determination, work ethic, and faith in himself resonated deeply with me and continues to inspire me in my own life. Like Rudy, I have faced challenges that could have easily discouraged me. Being born with hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, I have had to work harder than most to overcome physical limitations while pursuing my passions. There have been times when I have felt the weight of my struggles, wondering if I could keep up with my peers or reach my goals. However, watching *Rudy* reinforced an important lesson for me—heart and perseverance matter more than anything. Success isn’t just about natural talent; it’s about dedication, resilience, and never letting adversity define you. One of the most powerful moments in the movie is when Rudy finally gets the chance to run onto the field, proving that his hard work and determination paid off. That moment represents more than just a football dream—it symbolizes overcoming doubt, proving naysayers wrong, and achieving what once seemed impossible. I relate to that feeling because I have had to fight to prove to myself and others that I am capable, regardless of my challenges. Whether it’s excelling in school, participating in sports, or mentoring others who struggle, I strive to embody that same never-give-up spirit. My football coach actually gave me the "Rudy" award at the end of season banquet because of my short stature and my resilient attitude on and off the field, I reminded him to Rudy. The film also highlights the importance of faith and having people who believe in you. Rudy didn’t achieve his dream alone—he had mentors, friends, and supporters who encouraged him along the way. In my life, my faith in Jesus has been my greatest source of strength, reminding me that perseverance through hardship builds character and purpose. My family, teachers, and coaches have also played a major role in pushing me forward, just as Rudy had people who saw his potential when others didn’t. *Rudy* is more than just a sports movie; it is a story about resilience, heart, and the power of believing in yourself even when the odds are stacked against you. It has inspired me to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles, and to never stop chasing my dreams.

One of the most difficult moments in my life was learning to navigate school and sports while managing the pain and fatigue from my arthritis. There were times when I felt physically weak and discouraged, wondering if I could keep up with my peers. Simple tasks that others took for granted, such as writing, walking long distances, or practicing sports, often felt overwhelming. On top of that, my hearing loss added to the challenge, making it difficult to always engage easily in conversations or follow verbal instructions. However, I refused to let these struggles stop me. I also relied on the support of my family, teachers, and coaches, who encouraged me to keep pushing forward. Balancing school, extracurricular activities, and personal challenges can be overwhelming, and without proper mental health support, it becomes even harder to succeed. As someone who has faced difficulties with hearing loss and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since birth, I understand how mental and physical health are connected. Managing pain, fatigue, and accessibility challenges while keeping up with schoolwork can be stressful, but I have learned that taking care of my mental health is just as important as taking care of my body. I also believe in promoting a positive and inclusive environment, especially for students who feel isolated due to disabilities, bullying, or personal struggles. I understand how it feels to be different, and I use my experiences to help others feel seen and accepted. Social media and online spaces can also have a huge impact on mental health, which is why I advocate for safe and positive online interactions. Cyberbullying and negativity can be damaging, especially for young people, so I encourage kindness and respect in digital spaces. Whether it’s reminding others to think before they post or speaking up when I see harmful behavior, I strive to make online spaces safer and more uplifting. In my home and church community, I emphasize the importance of faith and emotional well-being. Because of his influence, I am determined to further my education, knowing that my experiences and voice have the power to make a difference. His influence also played a major role in my decision to participate in speech and debate. Speech and debate have helped me learn how to express my thoughts clearly, think critically under pressure, and engage with different perspectives. These skills are invaluable not only in academics but also in life. Through debate, I have learned how to analyze arguments, defend my beliefs, and listen to opposing viewpoints with respect and understanding. Additionally, mock trial has given me the opportunity to apply my communication skills in a structured, competitive environment.
